The Italian winter is the citrus fruit season. Most citrus fruits start to mature during this season, the coldest season of the year.
Citrus blossoms bloom in the spring, giving way to these succulent fruits from December through to March. Although some species are able to mature in almost any season of the year, winter remains the most prolific season.
Southern Italy is not affected by particularly severe climate conditions and therefore manages to produce some of the best citrus fruits in the world, even during this season, thanks to its ideal location in the heart of the Mediterranean.
