Kumquats are small fruits that are divided into two categories: the oval kumquat, also known as Fortunella margarita and the Fortunella hindsii. The oval kumquatis a very ancient fruit; it flowers in the summer and produces small, bright orange, oval-shaped fruits that can be eaten whole. The fruits have a smooth peel that is rich in essential oils.
The Kumquat Fortunella hindsii is a tiny oval-shaped fruit (measuring approx.1.5 cm in diameter) with a smooth, fragrant, orange coloured peel. Both species are cultivated for fruit consumption and for use as decorative plants due to their intensely fragrant blooms.
